Greetings for the new year of 2023!
I’m Dr. Se-Hoon Kim from the Korea University Ansan Hospital, the 16th President of the KOMISS.

I feel very honorable and responsible for serving the KOMISS as President this year, and I’d like to thank honorable presidents, advisors, and all members of the executive committee of KOMISS for assigning me as the new President of KOMISS.

Following the two years of COVID-19 pandemic, 2023 signaled the importance of what we used to know as life and work, and our return to normality. Our educational portfolio is growing larger and more diverse, as we organized more educational programs and events than ever in spite of COVID-19.

We celebrated 20th anniversary of the foundation of our society in 2022, and are now entering the new 20 years with more dreams and higher targets to achieve. We’ll make efforts in developing our proud official journal, Journal of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery and Technique (JMISST) and in continuing academic exchange and promoting friendship among members through regular academic meetings.

As the leading society in the field of minimally invasive spine surgery not only in Korea but also globally, we have to go forward and prepare for the future to keep up our position.

Once again, I appreciate all the members of KOMISS for their sincere passion and contribution for the patients in the field of treatment and research in spinal disorders. I’d like to extend my best wishes of happiness, health and prosperity for the new year, to all members of KOMISS!

It's my great honor to be elected as the 20th president to lead the Korean Minimally invasive Spinal Surgery Society (KOMISS) for 1 year.

Since its establishment in 2002, KOMISS has made excellent progress in the past 15 years, and now it has become a representative spine society in Republic of Korea. In addition, we have made a great leap forward by successfully achieving breakthrough and progressive integration with the Korean Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (ISMISS Korea).

I would like to thank all KOMISS advisor and executive directors, including honorary president Park Chun-keun, who has elected me to the chairman, and will do my best to be the chairman of KOMISS.

I am aware of the importance of the KOMISS Society, and I am aware of how high and valuable the Society is in the world now, as the Society has been developing and leaping.

I will devote all of my ability to lead the development of minimally invasive surgery by this KOMISS society for one year to meet and communicate with the world spine societies.

I would like to actively communicate with the International Spine Society such as World Spine, NASS and Eurospine in order to inform the world of the superiority of our minimally invasive surgery and to play a leading role in the development of minimally invasive spinal surgery. I will actively reflect on opinions from advisors of KOMISS committee member and will support them.

We will provide support at the academic level so as not to be caught in competition with the recently fast growing China as well as with the Japan, the United States, and Germany. We will hold various spine conferences and workshops to raise our status.

In addition, At present, we are actively accepting the opinion of the doctors of spine hospital and respecting opinions of the standing directors in the situation where there are various problems due to the HIRA(HEALTH INSURANCE REVIEW & ASSESSMENT SERVICE) and the insurance problem internally, and discuss the countermeasures at the institute level so that these problems can be overcome with wisdom. I'll do it.

Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to the various standing directors and advisors who helped me to lead the KOMISS, and I will do my best to further develop KOMISS for one year.

The 17th President of KOMISS Gachon University Gil medical center

As we already acknowledge, KOMISS was founded in 2002, and has held fifteen annual academic meetings. And KOMISS accomplished a great unification with ISMISS Korea last year, and now stands worthy of the name to be the organization representative of minimally invasive spine surgery society of Korea. Standing upon the concrete foundation of this unification, the following year will be a period that we strive to radiate a greater deal of fresh energy in all respects.

Speaking of academic meetings, I will see to it that abundant academic exchange is met and even more is offered for educative purposes, by sincerely preparing for the 2016 KOMISS Advanced Spinal Endoscopic Course with Cadaver Workshop at December 3-4 in this year and the 16th KOMISS Annual meeting with Cadaver workshop at May of 2017.
Efforts will be made so that more information is shared and even more friendship is accommodated by holding case conferences more than two times in the following year. I am confident that the KOMISS　scientific journal will head its way to publication and hopefully we set forth preparing for a revision of the minimal invasive spine surgery textbook.

But above all matters mentioned, participation among all members is the most discrete key to the progress of our society. I sincerely ask for your enthusiasm, participation, and encouragement so that KOMISS is recognized as the leading academic society which offers constantly developing new information and knowledge, and opens a new era in our field of medicine.

Once more, I owe a great deal to all members of the society for the honor of the opportunity. I will make endless efforts for the following year.
